Dear Trinity United,
I have learned that sometimes when things do not go as planned, better things are brewing ahead.
In April 2024, my husband Gary and I were supposed to go away for a ten-day vacation. Unfortunately — or fortunately — we had to cancel our vacation. We received a credit voucher to be used later.
Over the months, Gary and I thought about how to use this credit and make the most out of it. We had an “AHA” moment and thought: Why not turn it into something special for our 25th wedding anniversary, which is Sept. 3? (Where did the time go?)
It feels like it was just yesterday, Gary and I covenanted to each other in front of God and all our family, and friends, at Northlea United Church in Chomedey, Laval, Quebec, and released doves to mark this beautiful day.
We are excitedly anticipating spending time together from August 11 to Sept. 10, without any work commitments. We will enjoy a portion of this vacation cruising the East Coast of our beautiful country, Canada. We have never done this before, so we are looking forward to this new experience. Maybe last year’s vacation cancellation was just a stepping stone for us to experience something different.
I know our autumn season is full of amazing ministries, with concerts, chapel services at long-term facilities, pastoral care visits, worship celebrations, and so many more ministries that are carried through our church building. Therefore, a rest like this will prepare your minister to come back refreshed and rejuvenated to continue working with you and continue to make a huge difference in this world with small acts of kindness.
I am ever grateful to my colleague and sister, Rev. Jill Turnbull, who has offered to step in for any pastoral care needs. The church office will have her contact info.
I pray that you all have an amazing month ahead with Love overflowing in and through you wherever you are found. Remember always that all things work for good who trust God.

What a lovely, restful time you will have. Our East Coast is a gem. One of my favourite trips to make. Safe travels my friend.
